Overscan - how to prevent or mitigate it

I am sure that many Picuntu users encountered the problem where window buttons, status bars and scroll bars are off the screen. This occurs because the typical TV defaults to overscanning. Overscan is where the actual image is larger than the screen it is displayed upon. There are ways to overcome this. On my Sony Bravia you need to set the size to "full" which is to say normal and in the settings for the picture set it to "1:1". The catch is that the input device such as your TV stick has to use the native resolution of the set which in my case is 1920x1080. Anyway this is a bother because the TV always reverts back to overscan whenever you change inputs.

Other TVs allow to set a label on the HDMI input to "PC" which will turn off overscan. Still others have one of HDMI inputs dedicated for PCs and it will not overscan.

The point of all this is a question for the video guru's out there. When I use Android on my TV stick there is no apparent overscan. The status bar is not hidden. Full screen apps all appear normal with everything visible. Does Android size the image to compensate for overscan? Does Android have some sort of a signal on the HDMI to turn off overscan?

Bricked Measy U2A...

Hello,

I have a problem with my Measy U2A. Few months ago I bricked my Measy U2A (now I don't remember what happens). Today I try to unbrick it, but there's a problem. I installed drivers, my laptop recognise RK30 device but when I try to erase nand or upload new firmware there's a "download boot fail" or "download idb load failed". In RKBatchTool I have blue square, so device is in Maskrom Mode. I don't know what to do now. Tried other PC's and the other USB cables - nothing new happens, still download fail...
Could anybody help me?

File directory not seen

Hi can anyone tell me why if I try to install zip files from websites and correctly writing the website into system> file manager.
Why when I go to, system > settings > add-ons > install from zip file > website.. I would see nothing?

Would any general Android settings in Minix Neo 7 make the files not seen?
or general settings XMBC itself?

Arnova 10G2 with 8GB, Stock Firmware needed

Hi everybody,
i'm new here and i hope somebody can help me with my problem.
I've bought an Arnova 10G2 Tablet with 8GB on Ebay. Yes it's
a 10G2 with 8GB and not a 10bG2 with 8GB. Stock Firmware is
Android 4.03 but this Firmware is not available on Arnova Web-
page. Does anyone have this stock firmware? I've flashed several
custom FW's but no one supports 8GB and the touch works also not
accurate.


Yes, i've dumped my pad, and i can reinstall my dump, but then the
touch doesn't work anymore. What goes wrong? Can anybody help?

Firmwares Kernels and 1080p support

I've some question
Please forgive me for my bad english and my noobness

I have a T-R42 device

I have flashed if with lewi's firm with RK batch Tool clicking on "restore" button is ok or there is the first error!? wich button is the right one? "Restore" "upgrade" "switch" ???

I decided to change firmware because it works in 720p so I flash the Wasser firm 1.2.4 with "rk android tools"
I have the V2.0 board so in the paths i puts the "1080p kernel new" "1080p boot" and click on "RUN" without doing anything else. Second error!?

Now it seems to go better but still not in real 1080p. everything became smaller but the definition seems to be lower than 1080p that is my screen res.

I have switched other 2/3 different rom, the stock one and other combinations but I really don't understand if is working in 1080p or not.. The graphic effect also in the same video playback is quite different from the result that come out connecting the same monitor to my PC...

Now i want to know, what is the firm that support the 1080p, and do I have to do something before flashing it? For example, if I want to return to Wasser's 1080p,
1) I run "RK android Tools"
2) I select the "1080p boot.img"
3)I select the "1080p new kernel"
4) I click on "RUN"
Finish right or no!?

I ran across this new tablet the other day on Geekbuying.com. I thought it was REALLY cool, so I decided to get one to try and review. Here is my review thread: Review

I've only had this thing for a few days, so I plan to test it out some more before I add to the review. This tablet is quite a different animal...but I think you will enjoy it. I'm still trying to figure out how to map the controls to the games.


Custom RileyROM

I have put together a custom ROM based on new official JXD firmware, dated 1/16/2014. The ROM kit also includes a Game Center zip file. After you root, just unzip the archive and copy it to the internal SD of the tablet and install the Gamecenter.apk. I'm still learning how to use this, but there is an app called Happy Chick that is installed on your desktop and when you run it, you have the option to download and install games. The games I tried, however, are in Chinese language...and I haven't figured out how to change it. My 14 year old son is my gaming expert, and he was away all weekend...so I plan to hand it over to him to test the games some more.

I had the original ROM almost ready to go as v1.0, but just as I was uploading it...I noticed JXD posted an update...so I'll just keep v1.0 to myself and just share v1.1 with you guys.

This ROM is:

Full Root with SuperSU
Full debloat
Init.d support added
Busybox commands added
English default with complete Android language support
Working CWM Recovery added (Installed after first boot)
Auto Install added on first boot (see this thread for details of this feature)
Google Play Store fixes added to allow for more compatibility
4gb default user app space with more parameter choices (This tablet only has 8gb NAND, so just use 2, 4 or 6gb)

First Time User's Guide included (read this before you attempt to flash this ROM)

Pipo M6 Pro - Unable to get flash tool to recognize connected tablet

I'm new to the Pipo tablet world but I've spent many days reading through the posts you guys have generously provided. THANK YOU for sharing this information with the community and the hard work put into the roms you distribute. I'm not new to updating custom firmwares on android devices but this is the first Pipo. I've loaded the rockchip drivers in windows 7 (64 bit), turned off debugging, powered up and connected, mass USB storage mode is off. USB recognizes a connection but the flash tool still says "No found" I've also manually booted into (what I believe is flash mode but I cant tell because the screen is blank) this also is the only time that "Rockusb Device" shows up in "Class for rockusb devices" in device manager. Even when in this mode the flash tool does not see that the m6 pro is connected. I am using the factory cable as described by Mr. Riley. Any tips that might help? Thank you! (Also, my apologies if this was posted in the wrong location, I searched around before submitting for a location more suited)

i got my tab to go the full 1.5 mhz runs with no problems so far im using antutu cpu master free only works on rooted android devices if we can get the kernal moded then we can tune it from 300 to 1.5 check it out works on my venture phone running drandroid rom bt dracable on phandroid :-)

How to Increase / Swap the Nand Flash memory for CS968 ?

Hello,

I'm Using CS968 and it works great.....

but, i disappointed with the nand flash memory because its to small for me. (I use it for gaming) ;)
so it needs bigger memory.

does anybody know how to increase the Nand Flash memory from my SD card??? because I'm using external SD Card but the Games files should be put in the Nand Flash memory. I cannot use the external memory to put the games data. or how to swap the nand flash and my external memory?

i need help please........

Next7P12 4G Serial YFG1012 won't boot

In all the reading i've done on this forum, I can't find the info needed to fix the no boot issue I am having with my nextbook. I am downloading the Next7p12 8g stock rom, but am unsure if it will work as expected since mine is a 4G. I am really new to all of this and I just want to get the tablet running and google play working so I can download games for my kid.

Why is there no firmware updates for builds YFG1012. The box says its running ICS 4.0
AMlogic single core, capacitive multi touch with wi-fi

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

ROMDUMP WANTED - Who Has Next7P12-8G with build.prop build date before 10-23-13?

The only complete ROM I currently have for the Next7P12-8G is dated 10-23-13. This is the build the stock ROM I have already released is based on.

Several people have reported WIFI not working after flashing the 10-23-13 based stock ROM.

After reviewing all of the threads in this forum, it appears that everyone who reported a WIFI issue has a manufacture date BEFORE 10-23-13. It seems the WIFI chip changed sometime between September and October 23, 2013.

Does anyone have one of these with a build date earlier than 10-23-13, that would be willing to dump the ROM so we can try to get the proper WIFI drivers for these guys?
